Mammootty as Mahout in 'Thappana' By Akku

Malayalam superstar Mammootty, who has given us three blockbuster movies in 2008 so far (Roudram by Ranji Panikkar, Annan Thampi by Hariharan and Twenty:20 by Joshi), will soon don the role of a mahout in Thappana by Akku Akbar, who recently directed the super family entertainer Veruthe Oru Bharya starring Jayaram and Gopika in the lead.

Thappana is a Malayalam word which means an elephant used to train wild elephants. In this film, Mammootty will be the owner of a famous elephant, Kannan (which belongs to actor Jayaram). Earlier, the same elephant had featured in Mammootty's Rappakal. Kannan, which recently won the prestigious 'Gajarajapattom' award from Kodannoor Dharmashastha Kshethram, is famous for his calm behaviour and has acted in more than 33 films.

Sources say Mammootty's Thappana will be an elephant-oriented film. Reji Nair pens the script. Thappana will be one of the superstar's biggest movies in 2009. More details are awaited. The superstar is currently in Dubai to attend the Dubai International Film Festival where his internationally reputed film Ore Kadal is being screened.

Mammootty Ends 2008 On A Happy Note

Malayalam superstar Mammootty started the year 2008 with hit film "Roudram" and has ended it with blockbuster "Twenty 20". No wonder he says he is satisfied with his work.

"As always, I worked with utmost dedication and commitment and I am happy with the returns," Mammootty told IANS.

In his first release of the year "Roudram", Mammootty played a cop and in "Twenty 20" the actor was seen as a lawyer. His other releases were "Annan Thampi", "Paranuthu" and "Maya Bazaar".

While "Paranthu" and "Maya Bazaar" didn't do well at the box office, the success of other three films helped the veteran actor to remain on top seat.

But the superstar says his biggest achievement this year is that he completed two films - "Pazhazzi Raja" and "Kuttishrank" .

"The shooting schedules of 'Pazhazzi Raja' and 'Kuttishrank' are over and I'm really excited and happy because I have high hopes from both the films. They will be released in 2009," said Mammootty.

Asked about a New Year resolution, he said: "I know only one job and that is acting and I will continue to do that."

Although he gave hits, he didn't receive any awards this year, but the actor is unperturbed.

"Haven't I told you many times that I take pride in my job and I would continue to do it the way I have done it all these years. I am not worried about other things," he said.

The superstar is off to Dubai Monday to attend the Dubai International Film Festival where his film "Orae Kadal" is being screened.

Nayarambalam. This year, the duo has given Mammootty one of the biggest hits in recent times, Annan Thampi. A couple of other films like Thommanum Makkalum and Mayavi featuring Mammootty have been big hits.

Shafi and Benny P. Nayarambalam have again come up with a funny catchy name for this venture, Mallanum Mathevanum. These are the names of the characters in a children’s story in Malayalam, so the title gives the feel of a simple, clean and humorous film. Details about the theme, cast etc. are yet to be divulged.

The film will be produced by A.B.S. combines which is formed recently by Shafi, Benny P. Nayarambalam and production controller Anto Joseph. It's learnt that the film may start rolling in the first half of 2009. The banner's first film Lollypop has just completed shooting.

This was the only big budget film to be released for Christmas in Kerala. Now, with the postponed release, it seems that Malayalees will have to be content with the small budget films that will be releasing in this season.

Mammootty to start finishing work of Pazhassiraja

Pazhassi Raja, the forthcoming biopic magnum opus historical film directed by Hariharan with Mammootty in the lead role, was supposed to be released in April 2008 during Vishu. Unfortunately, it was postponed since the shooting had to be called off more than five times since it started in 2007.

Anyway, megastar Mammootty is now all determined to complete the movie within three weeks. Mammootty has earmarked nearly three weeks to complete the final schedule at Madikkeri in Karnataka.

In Pazhassi Raja, Mammootty, who had played the hero in Hariharan's previous historical venture Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), plays the title role as Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, popularly known as the Lion of Kerala, a king in the 18th century from the Kottayam royal family. Suman plays the villain Pazhaiveetan Chandu and Tamil actor Sarath Kumar plays Edachena Kunkan, the chief lieutenant of Pazhassi Raja.

After Pazhassi Raja, Mammootty will join the final schedule of director Shaji N. Karun's prestigious venture Kutty Shranku at Kandhapuram. The film is produced by Reliance Entertainment under the banner of Big Motion Pictures, the first-ever Malayalam production by Anil Ambani's entertainment company.

Twenty : 20 Review

Reviewing Twenty Twenty is not so easy. If you go to view the film with realistic expectations, you are not likely to be disappointed. But with so many stars coming together, so big a canvas and two scenarists who till date have delivered only mediocre entertainers, your expectations would be rather low. The fact however is that the film has turned out to be better than what one would have expected. Unless of course, you are a very serious art film buff - in which case you'll find the film very, very disappointing.

Produced by Dileep's Graand Production for AMMA, the Joshiy-directed Twenty Twenty begins from where retired Supreme Court Chief Justice Viswanatha Menon returns home, hoping to spend the remainder of his life in peace and tranquility. But things don't work out the way he planned. His grandson Arun, studying in Bangalore, is suspected of murder, and soon Antony Punnekaadan IPS, the dare-all Superintendent of Police, who has concrete reasons to be hostile to Viswanatha Menon's family, comes seeking Arun.

Arun, who has gone into hiding, is nabbed by Antony. Then comes Ramesh Nambiar, one of the most sought-after criminal lawyers in the country. Ramesh saves Arun from being convicted, only to see him murdered soon after. Antony Punnekaadan reportedly nabs the murderer, red-handed. Devarajan, a dealer in spices is charged with the murder.

Things take such a turn that it's Ramesh Nambiar once again who comes in as the defence attorney, but this time to save the person who is accused of murdering the very guy whom he had saved earlier. Ramesh Nambiar has reasons to believe that Devarajan is innocent and so he fights it out in court and saves the latter. Minutes later, even before leaving the court premises, Ramesh Nambiar comes face to face with a totally different Devarajan, who introduces himself as Devaraja Pratapa Varma. From here the story takes a new turn.

If Mammootty as Ramesh Nambiar is simply stunning, Mohanlal, as Devaraja Pratapa Varma, is even so. Suresh Gopi, as can be expected, does the role of Antony Punnekaadan IPS with aplomb. Jayaram is comfortable as Dr. Vinod Bhaskar, a character that he portrays in his typical style. Dileep, who hitherto had been projected as one of the key players in the film, in fact has only a small role - that of Karthik Varma, the younger brother of Devaraja Varma. But he has played that role in his characteristic style, with his special brand of humour that had endeared him to the masses. All the supporting actors (there are far too many to name names) do their roles well.

Coming to the actresses, it must be said that Meera Jasmine has turned out to be the luckiest of them all, simply because of not being there in the film at all. In a film that obviously is made to project the heroes and to pamper their fans, heroines end up as mere appendages, with hardly anything to do. While Kavya Madhavan is wasted in an insignificant cameo role, Nayantara is brought in just for a song that fails to impress us in any way. Gopika too has nothing to do. It's Bhavana alone who has some sort of a role to play in the story. (Let's hope AMMA thinks of making a movie for the actresses too).

Of the young brigade, only Indrajith (who plays Arun) has got a character worth mentioning. Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Kunchacko Boban etc, whose names are mentioned in the cast, are just there for namesake, appearing in a song and vanishing as soon as the song ends.

Coming to the technical aspects, it's difficult to find fault with the cinematography, editing or art-work, all of which suit the over-all mood and tempo of the film. But the songs fail to make much impact. Background score by Rajamani deserves special mention.

Coming to the scenarists, Udayakrishna and Sibi K. Thomas ought to be appreciated for seeing to it that both Mammootty and Mohanlal get equal weightage and that their fans are satisfied. The scenarists are to be appreciated also for having created for Suresh Gopi a character that suits his image and calibre. But they cannot be forgiven for having worked out a script that promotes only the super-stars and totally neglects the others. And they deserve to be pitied for coming up with so mediocre a storyline, given such a big star cast. But on the other hand, what kind of a story can you come up with, when anybody who is anybody in Malayalam cinema is to have a role in it? They need to be appreciated for coming up with something that could accommodate them all - even though the accommodation for the most part is third rate.

Though director Joshiy has made many memorable films, Twenty Twenty is a film that doesn't for a single moment feel like one of his creations. It's a film made for the stars and their die-hard fans. So, if you are a fan of one of the stars or of film stars in general, Twenty Twenty is good for a watch. You may also like to watch the movie simply for the novelty of seeing so many stars come together in a single film. Otherwise Twenty Twenty is no great shakes.

Mammootty, on his finishing work on Aruvadai (Vandemataram in Malayalam) Kollywood have again plan to sign with Mammootty. It is quite a rare accomplishment for Malayalam heroes to act in Kollywood films. Though many Malayalam heroes have tried, none of them succeeded like Mammootty. Mammootty has always been a special attraction for Kollywood. It is said that the story revolves around two business tycoons and the entire film will be shot in foreign locations, beginning in January or February 2009.

Mammootty teams up with Akku Akbar

Akku Akbar, who earlier used to direct films as part of the Akbar-Jose duo and who turned independent director with Gauri the Unborn (Hindi) and tasted commercial success in a big way with Veruthe Oru Bharya, is now all set to go on to his next film. And the big news about the film is that it will be none other than Mammootty who would be playing the lead role, that of a mahout.

Though details are not available, it is heard that Reji Nair, who had earlier scripted the Lal Jose-directed Mammootty-starrer Pattaalam, would pen the script for this movie too. Akku Akbar is planning to commence shoot for the movie early next year.

BigB Delays Aruvadai/Vande mataram

Aruvadai' is a bilingual movie, being simultaneously made in Tamil and Malayalam. Starring Mammootty, Arjun and Sneha, it is produced by Henry and directed by Aravindhan.

A plan was etched to rope in the Big B, Amitabh to enact in the climax sequence of this movie. The actor gave his consent to play the role but unfortunately his dates didn't fall in place.
Adding to this, Amitabh fell ill recently and was admitted to the hospital. With no other go, the makers of 'Aruvadai' made a decision to cast another popular star and continue with filming the end portion of the movie.

T: 20 poster creates tension in Kerala!

The first look posters of the big budget multi-starrer produced by AMMA Twenty:20, has created tension between Mammootty and Mohanlal fans in Kerala.

Mohanlal fans are up in arms against the first look six-sheet poster of Twenty:20. In the poster Mammootty is placed in the centre, with Mohanlal and Dileep on his left and Suresh Gopi and Jayaram on his right.
What has hurt the sentiments of Mohanlal fans is that the actor has not been given the center spot and it looks like Mammootty has been given more importance!
Fans of Mohanlal in Thiruvananthapuram is reported to have cut off Mammootty's head in the posters, while fans of Mammootty in many places in Malabar area has tarred and blackened the face of Mohanlal!
This tit for tat battle is getting uneasy and AMMA the producers of the film has called for peace and understanding between the fans. They say Mammootty appears in the center because he is the senior of the two superstars, and in no way has Mohanlal been played down. After all the two are doing a multistarrer.

Mumbai model Keerthi Kulhari has signed the dotted line to act in Mammootty's Love in Bangkok to be directed by Rafi Mecartin. Keerthi Kulhari will play Diana, a software engineer who falls in love with Machu (Mammootty). Keerthi Kulhari has modelled for various brands, including Taj Mahal tea with Saif Ali Khan.
Love in Bangkok revolves around Machu (Mammootty), who was very poor but later becomes a very rich man. Machu never likes to live a posh lifestyle but a great change occurs in his life. He gets into a quarrel with Andrews, his business consultant. Andrews's daughter Diana tries to reunite them. Initially, Machu does not like Diana, but later falls in love with her.
Other cast members include Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Lalu Alex, Rajan P. Dev, Salim Kumar, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Biju Kuttan, Sukumari, Manka Mahesh and others. MHM films are producing the film which will be distributed by Vaisakha films. Love in Bangkok is slated for release on January 23, 2009.

Kuttysranku: A Magical Realism from Mammootty

Mamootty’s Kuttysranku portray the plot by 'Magical Realism'. The film has three heroines and Kuttysranku (Mammootty) is shown through the different viewpoints of the women. The spirituality of Buddhism, interest in art and human concern -- these three impressions are included in this film.

Mammootty has taken this character as a challenge. As an actor, he has received a number of national as well as state awards; director Shaji  N. Karun is also well-experienced  and has won a great number of awards. His first film Piravi won him his first National Award and numerous others have followed.

Two schedules of Kuttysranku have been completed; the third and last schedule would be at Kundapura near Mookambika. The three heroines are Padmapriya, Kamalini Mukherjee and well known Sri Lankan actress Meena Kumari. Meena Kumari, who is known as Vasudha here, has won an award in Sri Lanka.

Mammootty's Love in Singapore starts today

Mammootty’s forthcoming film, to be directed by the Rafi-Mecartin duo ‘Love in Bangkok’ which was earlier named ‘Love in Singapore’ shooting starts today in Karaikudi in Tamilnadu. Later the team would move to Singapore for rest of the shoot.
Earlier Singapore was fixed as one of the locations, but now due to practical reasons, especially since the makers preferred Bangkok to Singapore, the location has been changed and hence the change in name.
To be produced under the banner of MHM Productions, ‘Love in Bangkok’ has Mammootty playing the role of a very rich scrap dealer, who is called by everyone as ‘Machu’. And he has a habit of reading and treasuring old books that reach his hand. At a stage Machchu takes some very strange decisions regarding his life and the decision proves to be a turning point in his life.
The Mumbai model Keerthi Kulhar who features in the Taj Mahal tea ad with Saif Ali Khan is going to be Mammookka's heroine in the film.
Kochi and Bangkok will be the two prime locations for the shoot of this film. ‘Love in Bangkok’ is expected to  hit the screens on January 26th next year.

Maya Bazaar was eagerly awaited by fans of Mammootty, who were longing to see their favourite star dance and sing and fight and utter the best of dialogues.

But the film turns out to be a disappointment and offers nothing spectacular at all. Though it doesn't bore you, it doesn't entertain you either. And since people were expecting a full-fledged entertainer in the vein of Rajamanickam and Thurupu Gulan, they feel badly let down because Maya Bazaar doesn't come anywhere close.

Maya Bazaar is a place in a village called Mayannoor where people sell parts dismantled from old and discarded vehicles. There is a bunch of interesting characters that we come across in Maya Bazaar. Rameshan is a good-hearted guy who had come from elsewhere and established himself in Maya Bazaar. He has a coterie of friends who are always with him. With the money he earns by selling automobile parts, he feeds patients at the local hospital. His father Damodaran, known popularly as 'Akkiri' Damodaran, is a foot loose type of guy who comes to live with his son every once in a while. The two of them are more like friends. Then there is Bhadran, who too is in the spare parts business. He is at loggerheads with Rameshan.

Maya, a young girl who lives in Maya Bazaar with her mother assists the elderly Jose in running his tea-shop. She loves Rameshan, but the latter doesn't seem to reciprocate this love. Bhadran on the other hand wants to marry Maya and hence doesn't like her having any soft feelings for Rameshan. Life goes on like this in Maya Bazaar until one day Rameshan happens to see at the local hospital, the dead body of a person killed in a road accident. The person looks exactly like him. Moreover there are many things about the dead person that seem mysterious. Things take a new turn from here.

The idea of setting the story against a place like Maya Bazaar is interesting. The place itself, the jobs that people there do for a living, and things related to their lives could indeed have been used as fodder for a good entertainer. But the story that the film has chosen to narrate lacks appeal and the narration itself is unimpressive.

Though Mammootty as Rameshan is good, something is lacking in his performance. He tries his best to be lively and energetic, but he doesn't get anywhere close to the performance he delivered in films Rajamanickam, Mayavi etc. Perhaps he is fed up doing such characters again and again. Maya (Sheela in Tamil), who plays the role of Maya in the film, is just about OK. Rajan P. Dev as the hero's father is his usual self. Kalabhavan Mani as Bhadran does full justice to his role in his characteristic style. Tisca Chopra doesn't have much to do and fails to impress. Suraaj Venjaramoodu, Salim Kumar, Bijukuttan etc are just passable.

Technical aspects are in sync with the mood and the tempo of the film. Art-director Prashanth Madhav has done a good job with the sets and deserves appreciation. The songs are just about average. In short, Maya Bazaar, intended to be a colourful entertainer, turns out to be a rather drab affair.

Good Opening for MayaBazar

Mammootty's latest filck 'MayaBazar' got released on Wednesday and the actor took the day off to celebrate with his family. The film has opened to a good response across centres in Kerala.
Directed by Thomas Sebastian, the film is inspired from the real-life story of a person who provided food packets to patients in a hospital near Thrissur district. In the film, Mammootty carries food packets for the ailing patients at the nearby hospital every noon.

'Maya Bazaar' has been released only in B and C class theatres because of the controversy in the Malayalam film industry that started when Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) decided to exhibit new releases in maximum centres in the first week itself but the film Exhibitors Association had opposed the move.

Earlier, new films were being released in 48 centres but it was increased to 85 centres six months ago.
Suresh Kumar, who leads the Producers Association, said the present controversy with the Exhibitors Association is going to end today itself.

"All the issues are being discussed and from tomorrow onwards all the main centres would also be releasing these films," said Kumar.

But state owned Kerala State Film Development Corporation decided to screen 'Maya Bazaar' at the main centres as well.

Mohanlal's latest movie 'Kurukshetra', a film directed by former commando Major Ravi based on the Kargil conflict, was slated for release today.

"I wish that Mohanlal's film too had been released today, but the release didn't take place due to some problem," said Mammootty.

Meanwhile, huge crowds were seen in all the theatres where 'Maya Bazaar' was released.

Mammootty also said that he took part in the prayers here.

Directed by Thomas Sebastian, the film is inspired from the real-life story of a person who provided food packets to patients in a hospital near Thrissur district. In the film, Mammootty carries food packets for the ailing patients at the nearby hospital every noon.

Mammotty teams up with Shaji Kailas

Mammootty will do the lead role in hit-making director Shaji Kailas’ next film, to be produced by M.Mani under the banner of Aroma. The film will be scripted by A.K.Sajan and may start rolling in a couple of months’ time.

Shaji Kailas and A.K.Sajan are at present engaged in the making of ‘Red Chillies’, starring Mohanlal in the lead. ‘Red Chillies’, which is currently in progress in Kochi, will soon get shifted to Singapore. The film is reportedly a murder mystery with nine heroines in the cast.

The Mammootty-Shaji Kailas team has produced several hits like The King, The Truth and Valyettan. Shaji ventured into feature films through the low budget movie News. It was Thalasthanam (featuring Suresh Gopi as a hero seeking revenge for his brother’s death) which made Shaji noticed by the masses. Then came another hit, again from team Ekalavyan, in which Suresh Gopi played the role of Madhavan IPS, who fights the illegal drug trading done by the help of a Swamiji (played by Narendraprasad). But it was Commissioner, released in 1994, which catapulted Shaji to fame and gave Suresh Gopi the name Super Star.

Details about Shaji Kailas’ Mammootty-starrer are yet to be worked out. Let’s wait for the same to come across.

‘Maya Bazaar’, directed by debutante Thomas Sebastian, is an entertainer with Mammootty in lead role, obviously targeting the audience who liked ‘Rajamanikkam’, 'Pothen Vava’, ‘Thuruppugulan’, ‘Mayavi’ etc.

‘Maya Bazaar’ has as the lead character, Ramesan, who buys old cars, dismantles them and sells the spare-parts at cheaper prices. And Ramesan lives in an area known as Maya Bazaar, where many others like him too dwell and do the same kind of business. Ramesan anyhow is a very upright kind of guy, who sees his job as something much more than a mere job. For him each and every car that he buys and dismantles represents the philosophy of life itself.
Ramesan has a very strong opponent in Bhadran, who too deals in second-hand spare-parts just like him. Bhadran has always been eager to fight it out with Ramesan, but due to the intervention of Josettan (real name Jose, called by everyone as ‘Josettan’ due to his age), who runs a tea-shop, the clash has often been averted. This is because Ramesan holds Josettan in high esteem.

It is into the life of Ramesan, Bhadran and many such other people in the street named Maya Bazaar that the film ‘Maya Bazaar’ strives to explore. While Mammootty plays Ramesan, it is Kalabhavan Mani who becomes Bhadran.

Tamil actress Sheela makes her entry into Malayalam with ‘Maya Bazaar’ under a new name Maya, which incidentally happens to be the name of the character she portrays in the film.

‘Maya Bazaar’ reportedly has a storyline spiced up with enough of colourful songs and sufficient dosage of humour, provided by the likes of Salim Kumar, Suraaj Venjaramoodu, Bijukuttan etc.

The film is scheduled to hit the screen on October 1.

Kuttysranku second schedule started

Mammootty and the crew of Kuttyshranku are in Kollam to shoot the remaining portions of the film. This second schedule started with the onset of monsoon to capture the rainy season and is continuing at a brisk pace. Mammootty has three heroines and he appears in three different get ups in this film directed by internationally acclaimed director Shaji N. Karun.

The story is told through the eyes of the three heroines, who, after the death of Kutty (Mammootty), remember him. The film will need another schedule to wrap up the shooting; in each schedule, Mammootty dons a different get up. The film is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Bengali actress Kamalinee Mukherjee, Padmapriya and a Srilankan actress are three heroines. Mammootty is expected to join the shooting of Love in Singapore directed by Rafi Mecartin after two weeks.

Mammootty's Ramzan movie 'Mayabazar' will grace the theaters by the
first day of October. The movie from debutant Thomas Sebastian will
open in 80 centers all across theater on the same day.

The movie will clash with another big budget war movie from
Mohanlal's 'Kurukshetra' which may get into theatres a couple of days
before Ramzan.

`Mayabazar' will have a lively Mammootty dancing to two fast songs of
the movie. The music is by Rahul Raj while T A Rasaaq pens the
dialogues. Tamil actress Sheela debuts to Malayalam, with this movie
while Kalabhavan Mani appears in a negative role opposite Mammootty.

Love in Singapore Location Changed

Mammootty's new film 'Love In Singapore' has changed its main location. The main location was 'Singapore'. The director duo of Rafi and Mecartin are now planning to change the movie's title also to 'Love In Bangkok'.

The movie will have Mammootty as Machu, a man who cruised into the lanes of financial heights starting his life as a scrap dealer. Mumbai model Keerthi Kunhal is the heroine of the movie, which is produced by H.H.M Productions.

The movie will start its shoot on the 9th of October at Karakkudi.

Mammootty Celebrates Onam at Sets

Malayalam superstar Mammootty, who is busy shooting for Maya Bazaar here, says he has so much work that he can't think of taking a break during this festive season.

"Yes, I am on the Ramadan fast, but I just cannot afford to sit idle on this pretext. Even tomorrow (Friday), which is Thiruvonam day, the most important day for all Keralites, I am busy shooting," said Mammootty.
The shooting of the film is taking place in his hometown, so Mammootty, who turned 55 Sunday, is able to spend time with his family.

Every year both the Malayalam superstars - Mammootty and Mohanlal - have at least one release during Onam, but this year neither of them had any new film during the festive season.

"See, I had a release, but work on Pazhassi Raja is not complete," he said.

This year, the Malayalam box office reports are not so satisfactory. Of 38 films that were released, only three movies are doing good business - Mammootty's Annal Thumpi, Mohanlal's Madhampi and Jayaram's Veruthe Oru Bharya.

Mammootty in high hopes with 'MayaBazaar'

After Parunthu, Megastar Mammootty is putting all hopes on Maya Bazaar, a rollicking entertainer. Mammootty knows that shades of grey in his character worked against the Padmakumar film.

So this time the character that he is doing in Thomas Sebastin directed Maya Bazaar 'Akkiri' Ramesh who deals in old cars and dismantling them is going to be a Robinhood type role. Remember his fans do not like him experimenting in commercial cinema.

The shooting of the film is going on in full swing in Pollachi. The other artists in the film are Sooraj Venjaranmoodu, Rajan.P.Dev, Salim Kumar, Innocent and heroine is new girl Sheela.

Mammootty Cleared that he dont want to rule Country

Malayalam superstar Mammootty has rubbished speculation about him contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, saying that he is too busy with movies to enter politics.

"This is now become a habit ahead of any election in Kerala. Let me make it very clear that I do not want to rule the country, instead I want to rule the hearts of people through my films," Mammootty said.

Speculation was rife that the veteran actor, who has over 300 films to his credit, was offered either the Ernakulam Lok Sabha seat or the Ponnani seat in Muslim-dominated Malappuram district.
"It is true that many want me to enter politics, but I'm not interested because I'm very comfortable in the present job I have and my hands are full," said Mammootty, who is currently shooting for ‘Maya Bazaar’ in Pollachi in Tamil Nadu.
His latest film ‘Parunthu’ has got a mixed response from audiences. The star said that people might not have liked him playing a character with negative shades. He portrays a cutthroat moneylender in the film.
"Maybe some do not like me in such a role. But this is all part of the game. As far as an actor is concerned, Mammootty has done his job as he always does," he quipped.

PazhassiRaja : Final schedule in August

Pazhassi Raja, a forthcoming biopic magnum opus historical film from the team consisting director Hariharan, script writer MT Vasudevan Nair and superstar Mammootty who gave us the unforgettable Oru Vadakkan Veera Gatha (1990), will start its final schedule of production by the last week of August.

It is said the movie needs another 25 days of shooting for completion. Major parts of its final portions, including the climax, will be shot in the dense forests of Karnataka and Kerala.

Mammootty will join the sets after completing his latest Maya Bazaar by Thomas Sebastian. Lead actress Kanika, who had been away from films after her marriage last month, will return to complete her parts in Pazhassi Raja, one of the biggest budgeted movies of Mollywood.

Parunthu Review

Mammootty's Parunthu released today at 80 centres all over Kerla, becoming the first malayalam movie to be released in most numnber of theatres. It is also made a record release time too. The film released at 12.01 am at thanoor PVS theatre, Malappuram. The Film will be released in B theatres in the opening day too. Parunthu, deals with the world of Blade Mafia (a term used for private money lenders charging exorbitant interest).

Parunthu Purushottaman, who has never cared for the feelings of people around him or the destiny of the people who borrow money from him, was bothered only about his business interests.

Purushottaman has two very funny guys - Kunjachchan(Cochin Haneefa) and Poojapura Mahendran - as his aides. And he has an arch-rival in Kallayi Azeez, who had once been his friend. Azeez wants to see Purushottaman's downfall, but the latter always manages to survive.

One day Purushottaman goes to one Hemant Bhai(Jagadi sreekumar) to recover money lent to him. It happens to be the eve of the marriage of Rakhi(Lakshmi Rai), Hemant Bhai's elder daughter. Hemant Bhai fails to return the money and is threatened with dire consequences. The marriage does not take place. Hemant Bhai becomes a mental wreck and his daughters are taken under the wings of Azeez, who decides to protect them.

In the meantime Vinayan(Jayasurya), who had been working as a carrier for Azeez, joins Purushottaman. Things move towards a point where (as you might have very well guessed) something drastic happens in the life of our hero, forcing him to mend his ways and turn a new leaf. And that forms the rest of the plot.

The film is extremely slow especially in the second half. It's the script that is to be blamed. The mediocre script led to the director losing his grip over the story and the film as a whole.

Performance-wise Mammootty as 'Parunthu' Purushottaman is very good. Jayan, who has mostly been seen in television serials and in some films too, is good as Azeez. Jagathy Sreekumar as Hemant Bhai too is good. Lakshmi Rai as Rakhi and Kalyani as Hemant Bhai's younger daughter is good. Jayasurya is suitable as Vinayan. Cochin Haneefa as Kunjachchan is his usual self. Suraaj Venjaramoodu, though he elicits a few laughs as Poojapura Mahendran. Mamukoya as Kunjikka, who had once been a moneylender and now is a wreck of a man, is good, though he and his character have nothing much to do in the film.

However the film is average , lets look after how audience accept this film, as Mammootty in negative role.

Parunthu to be released at 12.01

Maammootty Returned back from Bali Island

After a weak long with his family, Mammootty returned back from Bali Island. Mammootty had taken a 10-day break from monotony of continuous shooting. After completing Kutty Sranku's song and Chavittu Nadagam scenes, the star and his family went to Bali in Indonesia.

Mammookka just chilled out and enjoyed the holiday. Now he is back to work and has rushed to Pollachi where the shoot of his new film Maya Bazaar directed by debutant Thomas Sebastin is to start on Friday (July 11).

Mammootty, who is on a roll after a string of successes, now places high hopes on his next venture Maya Bazaar. He says the film's refreshing story line will appeal to the audience.

The veteran actor, who gave hits like Maayavi and Kadha parayumbol, says that Maya Bazaar will be directed by debutant Thomas Sebastian and shooting will commence next days at Pollachi in Tamil Nadu.

"The story is really refreshing, entertaining and also one that will leave the audience thinking," said Mammootty who has just returned after a week-long break in Bali islands.

"I enjoyed the much needed break. I am now fresh and am really excited about Maya Bazaar, he added.

Without giving out much details about the film, he said: "The film tells the tale of people engaged in dealing with buying old vehicles and breaking them down."

"Maya Bazaar" has two heroines - one is a new face and another is from Bollywood. The bollywood one is Tissca Chopra, who played the mother of wonder kid Darsheel Safari in Taare Zameen Par.

Mammootty's other most talked about project is Pazhassi Raja, a historical film about Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, popularly known as the Lion of Kerala, who was a king in the 18th century from the Kottayam royal family. The film is being directed by Hariharan and Mammootty plays the title role.

Parunthu Release Cofirmed on July 18

Mammootty as Gillette Purushothaman, the ruthless moneylender in 'Parunthu' is now slated for release on July 18.

Earlier the movie was scheduled to release on July 11, but has been postponed due to production delay.

One more comedy song featuring Sooraj Venjaranmoodu is now being picturised to give it a bit of a relief. The remaining song will be shoot in July 9th in Chennai. After seeing the film director Padma Kumar and producer thought a song would provide some relaxation, in otherwise a serious movie.
Parunthu is releasing big on July 18, and is expected to be a big ticket entertainer. The Mammootty film is carrying very good reports.

Mayabazaar : Shooting Starts On July Second Week

Mammootty's next feature ‘Maya Bazaar’ will kick of its shoot by the next week. The movie planned to start its shoot at Pollachi is directed by debutante Thomas Sebastian.
