Twenty 20 goes International

Apart from creating new collection records in practically every release centers, 'Twenty: 20' will also become the first Malayalam film to make a true international release. The movie has already started screening in many screens in UAE which has maximum number of malayalees, outside Kerala.
The movie also opened in three screens in US, the first of its kind for a Malayalam film. Even in Tamil Nadu, the original movie has opened in many screens.

The multiple release strategy of the movie will be a litmus test for the Mollywood industry to check how far their movie can succeed in other markets. The movie is poised to open in many screens in Bombay and other potential areas of the North India, next week.

In the home front , this mother of all multistarrers featuring every reigning stars of the Mollywood industry has already created the best of the records in collections, bringing in a whooping 12 crores in two weeks. The movie will make a distributor share of around six crores for this total collection. According to the trade experts 'Twenty:20' is expected to clear off the 20 crore bench mark in collections for the biggest hits, set earlier by films like 'Rajamanikyam' and 'Classmates' and will easily collect more than a twenty five crores from its ten weeks run.

In its third week 'Twenty:20' is still registering 80-90 percent collections in week days while weekend shows are thickly packed with hundred percent collections.

Pattanathil Bhootham starts on December

Malayalam superstar Mammootty is currently busy shooting with director duo Rafi Mecartin for Love in Singapore at Kochi, Karaikudi and Bangkok. Planned to be completed within 60 days in one schedule, the film revolves around Mammootty's character, Machu, a poor who later becomes a very rich scrap dealer.Navneet Kaur is the heroine in this film, being produced under the banner of M.H.M. Productions.

After completing Love in Singapore, Mammootty will start his next film Pattanathil Bhootham by the end of December. Scripted by Udhay Krisshna-Sibi K. Thomas team, the movie is directed by Johnny Antony.


Bhootham, planned as a humorous fantasy thriller, tells the story of Jimmy, an adventure bike rider in a circus, who accidentally gets some supernatural powers, with which he tries to fight the baddies of society. Reports say that Mammootty will attempt some daredevil acts of a bike racer in this film.

For the first time in her career, Kavya Madhavan will be the heroine role opposite Mammootty in Pattanathil Bhootham which most probably will be her last film, since she is likely to tie knot in March, 2009 with Nischal Chandra, a computer engineer working in National Bank of Kuwait as Technical adviser.

Also in the Pattanathil Bhootham cast are Jagathy Sreekumar, Innocent, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Salim Kumar and others. Pattanathil Bhootham is expected to grace the theatres during Vishu, 2009. After Love in Bangkok, Mammootty will also complete the final portions of director Hariharan's Pazhassi Raja, a magnum opus historical film about Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja.

Mammootty in 'PokkiriRaja'

After the super success of AMMA's magnum opus 'Twenty:20', ace scriptwriters Sibi K Thomas -Uday Krissna will once again team up with the megastar Mammootty for the film titled 'Pokkiri Raja'.
Mammootty will don the title role in this movie which will be the debut venture of young director Vysakh.
The movie which will be produced by Tomichan Mulakupadom in the banner of Mulakupadom Films will also have Jassie Gift making a comeback to Malayalam cinema ,after a couple of years. The movie will feature four songs from Jassie.
Vysakh, who has been the assistant to hit director Johnny Antony, was also the associate of ‘Twenty:20’.

Twenty : 20 Review

Reviewing Twenty Twenty is not so easy. If you go to view the film with realistic expectations, you are not likely to be disappointed. But with so many stars coming together, so big a canvas and two scenarists who till date have delivered only mediocre entertainers, your expectations would be rather low. The fact however is that the film has turned out to be better than what one would have expected. Unless of course, you are a very serious art film buff - in which case you'll find the film very, very disappointing.

Produced by Dileep's Graand Production for AMMA, the Joshiy-directed Twenty Twenty begins from where retired Supreme Court Chief Justice Viswanatha Menon returns home, hoping to spend the remainder of his life in peace and tranquility. But things don't work out the way he planned. His grandson Arun, studying in Bangalore, is suspected of murder, and soon Antony Punnekaadan IPS, the dare-all Superintendent of Police, who has concrete reasons to be hostile to Viswanatha Menon's family, comes seeking Arun.

Arun, who has gone into hiding, is nabbed by Antony. Then comes Ramesh Nambiar, one of the most sought-after criminal lawyers in the country. Ramesh saves Arun from being convicted, only to see him murdered soon after. Antony Punnekaadan reportedly nabs the murderer, red-handed. Devarajan, a dealer in spices is charged with the murder.

Things take such a turn that it's Ramesh Nambiar once again who comes in as the defence attorney, but this time to save the person who is accused of murdering the very guy whom he had saved earlier. Ramesh Nambiar has reasons to believe that Devarajan is innocent and so he fights it out in court and saves the latter. Minutes later, even before leaving the court premises, Ramesh Nambiar comes face to face with a totally different Devarajan, who introduces himself as Devaraja Pratapa Varma. From here the story takes a new turn.

If Mammootty as Ramesh Nambiar is simply stunning, Mohanlal, as Devaraja Pratapa Varma, is even so. Suresh Gopi, as can be expected, does the role of Antony Punnekaadan IPS with aplomb. Jayaram is comfortable as Dr. Vinod Bhaskar, a character that he portrays in his typical style. Dileep, who hitherto had been projected as one of the key players in the film, in fact has only a small role - that of Karthik Varma, the younger brother of Devaraja Varma. But he has played that role in his characteristic style, with his special brand of humour that had endeared him to the masses. All the supporting actors (there are far too many to name names) do their roles well.

Coming to the actresses, it must be said that Meera Jasmine has turned out to be the luckiest of them all, simply because of not being there in the film at all. In a film that obviously is made to project the heroes and to pamper their fans, heroines end up as mere appendages, with hardly anything to do. While Kavya Madhavan is wasted in an insignificant cameo role, Nayantara is brought in just for a song that fails to impress us in any way. Gopika too has nothing to do. It's Bhavana alone who has some sort of a role to play in the story. (Let's hope AMMA thinks of making a movie for the actresses too).

Of the young brigade, only Indrajith (who plays Arun) has got a character worth mentioning. Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Kunchacko Boban etc, whose names are mentioned in the cast, are just there for namesake, appearing in a song and vanishing as soon as the song ends.

Coming to the technical aspects, it's difficult to find fault with the cinematography, editing or art-work, all of which suit the over-all mood and tempo of the film. But the songs fail to make much impact. Background score by Rajamani deserves special mention.

Coming to the scenarists, Udayakrishna and Sibi K. Thomas ought to be appreciated for seeing to it that both Mammootty and Mohanlal get equal weightage and that their fans are satisfied. The scenarists are to be appreciated also for having created for Suresh Gopi a character that suits his image and calibre. But they cannot be forgiven for having worked out a script that promotes only the super-stars and totally neglects the others. And they deserve to be pitied for coming up with so mediocre a storyline, given such a big star cast. But on the other hand, what kind of a story can you come up with, when anybody who is anybody in Malayalam cinema is to have a role in it? They need to be appreciated for coming up with something that could accommodate them all - even though the accommodation for the most part is third rate.

Though director Joshiy has made many memorable films, Twenty Twenty is a film that doesn't for a single moment feel like one of his creations. It's a film made for the stars and their die-hard fans. So, if you are a fan of one of the stars or of film stars in general, Twenty Twenty is good for a watch. You may also like to watch the movie simply for the novelty of seeing so many stars come together in a single film. Otherwise Twenty Twenty is no great shakes.

Bheeman : Mind Blowing Performance from Mammootty

It was the great function arranged by Malayala Manorama as a part of their concern 'Ente Malayalam'. Mammootty fulfilled his dream by acting  in drama as 'Bheeman' for his great master M.T. Vasudevan Nair. The great E-book about MT 'MT- yude Lokangal' also published on the function. It includes 65000 digital pages of audio books and contents.

Mammootty was the man of the evening, yesterday at the Lulu Convention centre Thrissur .The master actor who was portraying an inspired performance on stage based on M.T. Vasudevan Nair's novel, 'Randamoozham, ' charmed audiences with his meticulous display of enacting four characters from the novel.


The show titled ''Bhemman'' was organized by Malayala Manorama, where the actor displayed his ease in stage acting too, in the roles of Bheema, Arjuna, Karna and Yudhishtira. Directed by T K Rajeev Kumar and Pramod Payyanoor, the show also had multimedia projections and backdrops with eight screens via four projectors working in tandem. The deep voice and intense performance of Mammooty supported by 13 other actors in lesser roles definitely moved its creator M T vasudevan Nair deeply. The veteran who discovered the star in Mammooty in the seventies, congratulated the actor for his mesmerizing performance and blessed all his future endeavors.

Mamootty who saluted MT for infusing meaning to every pregnant silence of Mahabharatha through the master work ''Randaamoozham' ', was more than happy for his mentor's whole hearted blessings. Mammootty later said that the offering was a gurudhakshina for M T , who made him read serious literature in his childhood. He also stated that MT was a writer who wrote very strong characters for his screen performances.

Malayala Manorama '' the leading media group in Malayalam, organized the show as a part of their ''Ente Malayalam'' program that has been planned to revive people 's interest in Malayalam literature. The digital version of the complete works of M.T. Vasudevan Nair was also released at the function.

The collection of 65,000 digital pages comprising of M.T's novels, short stories, essays and screenplays were released by film directors Kumar Sahni, K.G. George, Satyan Anthicaud, Lohithadas, poet Akkitham, music director Ravi, producer Shobhana Parameshwaran Nair, writers M. Mukundan, N.S. Madhavan, actor KPAC Lalitha and playback singer K.S. Chitra. All of these greats too witnessed the great performances of Mammootty and his crew on stage.
