“Malayalam actor and film superstar, Mammootty, has initiated a talent hunt show through his production company, Play House, in search of fresh faces in the film industry.
The reality show, titled “”Mammootty, The Best Actor Award 2009,”” debuted on Asianet TV on Saturday, showcasing the skills of 16 selected contestants – 10 men and 6 women, mostly in their early 20s. The contestants were selected from over 1,000 applicants.
Mammootty, a three-time national award-winning actor, is limited in his role in the show but plans to feature many of the contestants in future films produced by Play House. The grand finale of the show, consisting of 13 episodes airing every Saturday, will take place in October in Dubai where Mammootty will announce the winners.
The show is judged by veteran actress Sheela, comedian Jagathy Sreekumar, Urvasi, Sreenivasan, Nedumudi Venu, and director Siddique. Despite being the chairman of Communist Party of India-Marxist backed Kairali TV, Mammootty chose to air his reality show on a competitor channel, Asianet, stating that the proposal came from them and he thought it was a good idea.
