Two giants of the tinsel screen – Mammootty and Sarathkumar are coming together for the first time in the Malayalam blockbuster Pazhassi Raja. The movie with a historical significance is also dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
Mammootty dons the character of a king in the 19th century who leads from the front to free the country from British rule. Unstinted support comes from his deputy – Sarathkumar plays the trusted and wise minister.
Sharing his thoughts with the media, Mammootty said Pazhassi Raja is a sincere effort where the leaders who fought for the country – right from Tippu Sultan to Marudha Pillai – were given the importance they deserved.
On the extensive research done by director Hariharan, Mammootty said this being a period film, nothing could be left to chance. “We have done our best to present the facts threadbare. Nowhere have we said that Pazhassi Raja was the first freedom fighter but he was one among many,” said Mammootty.
Sarathkumar said it was a moving experience to be part of history. “It took a lot of time to get mentally prepared to do this character I see as a milestone in my career. The movie is all about the sacrifices of the four main characters but will highlight the pain they were subjected to while accomplishing their mission,” said Sarath.
Asked if the movie would open new avenues for him in Malayalam, Sarath said it would be great to work with the likes of Mammootty. But the real purpose of the film would be served only if the audience could appreciate the historical happenings portrayed with realism, said the Supreme Star.
