Superstar Mammootty has evinced interest in nationally distributing Adaminte Makan Abu, a simple yet evocative narrative of a man’s pursuit of religion, which was adjudged the best at this year’s national film awards.
Sources close to first-time director Saleem Ahmed said Mammootty’s distribution company Playhouse had sent an official communication to this effect.
“Mammootty is an ambassador for good films. So, it’s only natural that he’s eager to take Adaminte Makan to theatres across the country. If all goes well, he’ll walk away with the film’s distribution rights,” they said.
Saleem, however, has a problem of plenty as two other major distributors, Kas Kalasangam and Vaishaka, have also approached him.
The debutant director had earlier told Deccan Chronicle that the film, which fetched a comedian (Salim Kumar) the national award for best actor for the first time in the history of Malayalam films, was made on a shoe-string budget of Rs.1.5 crore.
With major distributors now waiting for his nod, it’s certain that Saleem’s work of art will make a handsome profit.
Adaminte Makan is tentatively slated for a release across the state on June 25.
